People were moving from the East for the mining opportunities and the health benefits of the dry desert air. People have loved the Vendome throughout the last century. In 1983, the building was overhauled. They were meticulous about the amount of preservation they did, even down to the numbers on the guestroom doors. So although you have modern amenities such as private bathrooms, air conditioning and heat, you still see all of the charm of the craftsmen woodworking, and a few of the vintage clawfoot tubs from the past.​
